RUN 2418 REPORT
The H4 Old Farts Strike Again!
On a rather pleasant spring evening, I arrived at the Royal Yacht Club to find the H4 old farts in an extraordinary state of activity, busily preparing for our BBQ. There’s nothing quite like a man in the kitchen — particularly when he’s doing the cooking, and preferably keeping out of everyone’s way!
At precisely 6.31 pm they dispatched us on our merry way.
The walkers were clearly being treated with kid gloves, enjoying a ridiculously gentle stroll. No hills, no challenges, not even a decent excuse to complain — just a measly two kilometres. We exited to the right of Marieville Esplanade, turned into Queen Street and wandered through the Sandy Bay shopping precinct, giving ourselves ample opportunity for a spot of window shopping and perhaps a little retail temptation.

From there, we followed the trail down Sandy Bay Road, detouring through Ashfield and Margaret Streets before turning into Marieville and eventually arriving home. Exhausting stuff! I’m sure a stiff drink was well deserved.
The runners, meanwhile, were sent on a more ambitious expedition, clocking up close to 5 kilometres. The Hare certainly earned his keep, making excellent use of every lane and shortcut available. Lord to Adams, View to Alexander, Churchill Avenue to Dobson Road, then through the University grounds, around Earl Street Cricket Ground and eventually back to RYCT.

One can only assume the Hare was keen to get back before the BBQ was reduced to a collection of burnt sausages and disappointed appetites.
And what a BBQ it was! Excellent food, with a good deal of chatter. Our old mate Zero took charge of the entertainment with a lively lip session although sadly the H4 repertoire appears to consist of just the one song, played on a continuous loop .
All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable evening. The H4 boys may be getting older, their musical repertoire may be questionable and their walking distances somewhat negotiable, but at least they still know how to put on a decent BBq
