RUN 2322 REPORT

The Springs has been used by Hash over many years; not too often but many have been memorable for different reasons. Many years ago, one of the smallest packs of about 10 did a run around the inside of the hut. It was blowing about 80kmh winds with rain and a wind chill of about 5 degrees C. Another time, the Hare after setting trail was some distance uphill and suffered altitude sickness/vertigo and had to hail a lift back down with some tourists.

There was a hotel here: in 1907, the Springs Hotel was built at a cost of £3,300. Guests could enjoy a hot meal at the restaurant, but could not drink alcohol because the hotel was never granted a liquor licence. It burned to the ground in the 1967 bushfires.

So, the Hares were Organ Grinder with help from Her Highness Eager. Organ Grinder remembered the bread, fortunately, with a little prompting. It wasn’t our largest pack, but the run was supposedly gentle in two parts, just not the middle which was solidly uphill at a steep gradient.

I suspect that Organ Grinder was really trying to lower the average age of H5 by killing the older and infirm members with heat stress and injury. There were a few fallers but in the lowered 27 degrees heat it was a very big effort to climb up the Sawmill track, past Sphinx Rock and to Pinnacle Rd. Most walkers headed back down from here, except a hardy few. In the Raw was on home at 8.10pm and Thrill Seeker last to complete the trail at 8.20pm.

Suffice to say everyone else wanted the Lip session over so we could go home.
